Banyan recognized for IoT technology and innovation used to reduce water consumption across Thacher’s complex, 427-acre campus in Ojai, California
Banyan Water, the leading provider of total water management software, announced today that its ongoing partnership with The Thacher School, an Ojai, California-based private boarding school, was named a 2019 Environmental Leader Project of the Year award winner.
Water scarcity and drought are near-constant threats to The Thacher School’s staff, students and overall operability. Thacher decision-makers implemented numerous water-reduction methods across campus, but soon realized the school—427 acres of diverse landscapes and buildings with varying water requirements—could benefit from the adoption of a total water management solution.
In partnering with Banyan, The Thacher School leverages the full power of IoT devices and Banyan Water Central—Banyan’s flagship software platform and a 2018 Environmental Leader Product of the Year winner—to:
- Monitor and detect leaks in real time.
- Track indoor and outdoor water usage in real time or over designated periods.
- Gain insight and visibility into water usage trends across campus through advanced data analysis.
- Identify and correct excess water use to create new cost-efficiencies and achieve financial savings.
Between its own internal sustainability initiatives and its partnership with Banyan that deploys the latest innovations in IoT and software solutions, Thacher has achieved 56 percent water savings since 2013.
“We’re thrilled with the results we’ve achieved with Banyan’s smart water technology,” said Ed Bennett, head of facilities at Thacher. “Not only have we been able to accelerate our water conservation efforts, but we’ve successfully integrated our students, faculty and alumni into our ongoing sustainability plans by visualizing our water usage and savings through Banyan’s platform.”
The annual award program, now in its seventh year, recognizes the most innovative and successful commercial and industrial products and projects in the environment and energy space. Judged by an independent panel of industry experts, the winners are selected based on the success of the project, the capabilities of the product and the positive effect on the industry. The winners were formally recognized and celebrated at the Environmental Leader & Energy Manager Conference on May 14, 2019, at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.
“The Banyan team is honored to receive this award in partnership with Thacher,” said Gillan Taddune, CEO of Banyan Water. “Thacher’s commitment to responsible water use underscores Banyan’s mission to preserve Earth’s most precious resource. We’re proud to work with Thacher and other sustainability-minded properties across the country to provide the software necessary to conserve water at scale.”
